STAAR passing levels set for student failure--by two years!

by Ann Sutherland on 02/23/19

Turns out the norms for failure in the STAAR test are set two years higher.  This is unbelievable.  Example:  3rd grade kids fail unless they score at the 5th grade level.  This was exposed in several research studies, but TEA refuses to budge.

This is the biggest testing scandal in US history--imagine misinforming an entire state of parents.

This is not in response to STAAR passing levels, but rather a comment about the horrible way you were treated by Trustee Paz tonight. Her vitriolic interruption of your explanation about why programs of choice are pulling money away from the greater needs of the district was appalling, uncalled for, and a bit suspicious sounding to my ears. Doesn’t she have children in a POC school? Ms Paz was elected to serve the needs of ALL students. Methinks she doth protest too much.

Thank you very much for your note; I was shocked not only at Trustee Paz but at the attorney's supporting her. I pushed for hiring this attorney so we could stop this sort of stuff. Don't miss my forthcoming column on stifling questions. Again thank you.
